I hate starting out a journey when its raining, I don’t mind if it starts hammering it down 10 seconds after I start out, but for some reason starting out wet, has a negative impact on me, It had been hammering it down all morning, and I thought that I would end up with a wet start, but it started to ease off, so I loaded the trike and started my journey to the Ali-Bongos ‘Show us your Bongos’ Custom Show and Party I thought that the weather gods had been kind to me as it brightened up, but I was wrong they had just changed their tactics, so here I am ‘Dry’ riding along when the wind started, I was doing 50mph and the wind was trying to rip me off my trike, I was hanging on with all my strength, and made it just in time to see Gypsy and Summer from Aztec Bikes and Tony from Tony’s Tattoos’ hanging on to their kites, which were once stalls trying to keep them from blowing away, I didn’t laugh (much) – nor was I quick enough to get my camera out and get some pictures, although I did hover round whilst people were putting up their tents in the hope that some would blow away and I could get some good shots for purely professional journalistic purposes. The Aztec Bikes stand was relocated inside the main marquee and the Tony’s Tattoos found a new home in the skittle alley inside the pub, Thankfully Spiders catering van was more than a match for the weather so all was well.
As many of you regular BSH readers already know (if you are not a regular reader then you need to order some back issues now) the Ali Bongo’s have a Knack of putting on fantastic Show and parties, this is not journalistic hype, but a fact, in past coverage of events I have put this down to Fairies making Fairy Dust in a secret Fairy dust factory (which disguises itself as a grass seeds factory) but after finding that the sentence ‘Can I spread my fairy dust over your body’ is an effective chat-up line I fear that this is not the case, and that Fairies do not exist, yes I am as shocked as you to find that out and will now need even more therapy than I already receive, my belief is now fairy dust is actually PCP and that the Ali-Bongos are drug barons (and baronesses), after the seeing the Beer Monsters this only proves I am right.
The Custom show and party was at a new location at The New Inn on the B4084 in Evesham, The new site was excellent. The layout gave the show a very personal and traditional feel. And with the custom show right outside the marquee there wasn’t much need to move around to much.
Pagan Flame disco was playing a good range of music for the afternoon and inbetween all the other things going on A tattoo competition started the afternoon with a fair few people showing off there tats, this was followed by STEViE one man one mandolin, and for those who haven’t yet seen him (where you been hiding) you really are missing out, following STEViE was the custom show with the most deserved prize going to a 650 Savage chop, which was really understated winning best chop and best engineering
Stitch played from the early evening slot and I raved about them last year, and am glad to say that they have got even better since then. Following on was the legendary Beer Monsters who performed a spanking good set, with everyone glued to the marquee for fear of missing even a minute of it, it was by far the most amazing set I have ever seen, with the audience suggesting cheesy 70s songs and the Beer Monsters performing their unique sets around them, and at one point I swear that there were more people on the stage than on the floor, and then the Finale, The Beer Monsters and STEViE singing Copperhead road together.
This was by far the ‘Best’ show/rally I have ever been to, and I go to one or two. And I have seriously had to trim back on my rally write-up as I could easily write another 1000 words about this event
I know the Ali Bongos would like to thank the Past its mcc for help organising the marquee and point out Yemi from The Grinning Idiots had an altercation with a car 2 miles from site entrance. Car never stopped but a local rider following in a van came to the rescue and pointed him in the right direction his Bike suffered a broken bar end, indicator, bent brake pedal plus scuffed exhausts. Leather panniers seamed to have saved his bike from further damage.
Yemi settled down despite still hurting and partied for the remainder of the afternoon, evening and well on into the small hours, Cherub and Dickster put him up for the night in a comfortable bed as bruising was steadily taking its toll.
By next morning he was hurting too much to ride so was rescued by two of his mates who drove all the way up from Newport despite our offers of running Yemi plus bike home in a van.
