Celtic Warriors 13th Birthday Bash
Once again it has all come round all too quickly; The Celtic Warriors Birthday Bash was packed to the rafters, and as usual the organisation was spot on, security was great because they wouldn’t even let me in, and am sure most of you wish they hadn’t.
But I evaded there plot and sneaked in anyway, with the help of Hovis, and set out on a journey round the campsite, and the first thing I came across was a stripped down Armstrong with some lads from the Jailers Mcc having a good old fettle, so I grabbed a photo and left them to it, I figure that if I had offered any help, then the bike may have well had worse problems.
After this I was being attacked by a womble (not The CW womble the other one) along with spike and Shaun the fatman. Closely followed by a young lady all in pink, who pointed her bottom at me (not that I minded at all, ladies please take note, this is a good thing). A couple of bike I liked the look of whilst wondering around the campsite one was ASBO an aggressive looking fighter and the other was a ‘General Lee’ inspired Vespa which stood out well.
And can I apologise to the campsite shop on behalf of the ladies from Ribcrackers mcc who kept opening their copies of BSH to their rally coverage page and leaving them open for all to see, they will be spanked.
The Custom show open up for entries at about midday and bikes and trikes poured in, there were about 25 trikes entered for the show, which is a pretty impressive turnout, my favourites included Andy’s mantis trike was there along with a yellow ‘Desperate Dan style’ V8 and my personal favourite a Jaguar V12 engined beast of a machine with 12 exhaust pipes sticking out the back, it was an impressive trike and attracted the most attention, I did notice that V8 trikes seem to becoming more and more popular in both front and mid engine guises.
Onto the bikes for me it was difficult to form a real opinion, the reason why well as some of you may know I get to the occasional rally or show and a lot of the bikes were things I have seen done to death or very nice well built bikes, but there wasn’t much that was out of the norm or really stood out and shouted look at me I am different, (there is always a couple of exceptions) and the ones that twiddled my knobs were a ‘Marillion’ themed Piaggio scooter, a Pristine Bonneville 750, A BMW monster of a Rat bike and a Lowrider chop with pin striping on the tank.
I spent the rest of the afternoon Loitering with Zeek Puppy Hugger, Carole, Sam, and Mistress Vicky, The bands started off with Doggin who did a mix of covers and some of their own material, I was pleasantly surprised by these and did enjoy there music, these were followed by Quill, now this band were Fantastic with a capital Brilliant, a Celtic folk / pop band kind of hard to describe really, but played a whole host of songs ranging from copperhead road to Come on Eileen along with classic Celtic songs thrown in, for me they are the perfect rally band, I do tire of hearing the same songs performed by different people at times and these were just what I needed to show me that organisers weren’t stuck in the way of just having rock bands all the time, the bands energy oozed out from the stage, with nearly everybody getting involved, whether it being tapping their fingers or singing out loud. Shy came on after but to me it was an impossible act to follow and retired back outside, to chill in the warm evening air. The perfect end to a perfect day, Roll on next years Birthday Bash;
one thing I did notice this year, was that organisation was a bit more strict, especially on the health and safety front, I guess that was because of the ever increasing legislation controlling these types of events, but the extra control was visible, not in any negative way, and it in no way took anything away from the event, it just made it a bit more ‘clinical’ now this wasn’t as big a thing as I seem to make it, it was just noticeable over previous years, that’s all.
