This is not the first time we have been over to the Gurtgallybagger Rally but when you do a rally on the Isle of Wight it turns into more of a holiday, with all the lovely scenery.
The weather was good as we left home and as we arrived in Lymmington to catch the ferry the friends that we were going to met had also arrived and we made the short journey across the Solent we arrived at the rally site to be greeted by members of the Wight Riders club, after signing in and making our way to our chalet the trip was made to the shop for a few essentials which included a few cans of liquid refreshment. After returning to the rally site we made the trip across the field to get some food and then over to the beer tent where we stayed until the wee small hours chatting to some of the Get off your Butts who had made the trip, the 3 bands on the Friday night were very good and had people dancing.
Saturday we awoke to another good day and after brekkie set off on the bikes to Sandown for the day, on our way back we called in at the other rally that is on the same weekend, “The over the edge rally” in Brighstone just down the road, had a chat to some of the guys there and also Stan who last year got married at the rally, he was getting things ready for the evening entertainment which was going to be Rocky Horror Show, which I’m sure had everyone rocking.
We arrived back at the Gallybaggers had some food and then over to the marquee, 3 more bands for the evening which were very good and awards were given: Club Turnout went to The Barrel Bikers who has 65 members, Rally virgins were named and shamed, then back to the business of drinking and catching up on the days events. The weather was not so good on Sunday and in the night was very windy but after breakfast it cleared up the sun came out and we all had a dry run home. Also on the island the same weekend is a Monkey Bike Rally, a Goldwing rally and also a Custom and Classic Bike Show in Ventnor on Bank Holiday Sunday in the Winter Gardens. Thanks Wight Riders for another good weekend.
