Review
I've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, its dark, and I’m wearing sunglasses. Hit it!
So its off to the NCC shires show, at great speed, and even the police couldn’t keep up with me, the fact that I didn’t see any, nor did they see me doesn’t matter, They're not going to catch me, I’m on a mission from God.
Arriving, I immediately noticed a difference about this event, I find biker events fall into a few categories, show, rallies and runs, and I can pigeon-hole most events easily, but this was a rally built around a show, and it was a different feel to it compared to most events I cover, which was an unexpected pleasure. The sun was glorious and I bet there were plenty of lobsters and Panda eyes by the end of the day, and I can just imagine the suffering of those who got burned, and then had to sleep in their tent with the heat coming through, cooking them slowly. And if it weren’t for Blues emergency supply of sun cream, both STEViE and I would have been in that number of people.
The Show area was filling up nicely, with a lot of ridden in bikes and trikes. And being a Chopper Club event, there was a lot of tidy machinery, and I am glad I weren’t Judging, as it was a hard job,
There were quite a few that stood out as winning machinery, there was a fantastic Cream and Black Sporster with Springer’s and whitewalls with hotrod styling, and two bikes stood out as my favorites one was a proper hardcore chopper, in red with huge apes, decent rake, upswept exhausts and an aggressive stance, the other was a scooter engined chop, the young lad had built it as part of a school project and it was truly magnificent to see. Metalflake was in an abundance (an over abundance in some cases) but in general the paintwork on the bikes there tended to be more subdued than some of the shows I have been to lately.
A marching band, did a presentation in the main area, which was a nice touch, but how half of them didn’t pass out, due to the heat, I don’t know.
The Trophies were presented shortly after, and I was glad to see that quite a few that I would have chosen ended up winning.
I decided to make a move after this as I was off to the pro custom show the day after, and it was only after I left that I realised that I had 92 miles to go, not that I mind the mileage, the fact was that it only looked about an inch away on the map, and I had planned my evening out, so it was a bit of a shock really. So that full tank of gas would no longer be full, the half pack of cigarettes was still there, it was sunny and I’m still wearing sunglasses.
Hit It!
