UNWANTED MCC BIKE SHOW. JUNE 2ND & 3RD 2006.
THE BEECH INN. BURTON ON TRENT.FFS.
Our annual bike show seemed to get under way a day early this year, as we were putting up the marquee on Friday and making things ready for the show people started arriving to pitch their tents in the pub garden, the weather was absolutely glorious and luckily it stayed that way all weekend.
By early evening we had quite a few people camping so we decided to light the BBQ and as there were a couple of stalls here too and the disco was going in the pub we had a great night with a few beers and a great company.
Saturday we awoke to another bright sunny day and by lunch time the car park at the front of the pub was full to overflowing and the garden at the back of the pub was getting fuller too as more people arrived not just to enter into the show but also to stay the night.
This year we had over 100 entries and it has been our biggest show so far, our judge for the day was Mr. Dave Minton and he had the unenviable task of choosing them all, by lunch time the car park was almost full to busting, and some of them had not just come to show their bike but some of them had come to stay over and make a weekend of it.
People packed the garden as the BBQ did a roaring trade in Burgers and Hotdogs, and as the smell of the onions drifted around the pub the queue began to grow.
Mr. Minton had made his decision and so at about 4:30 he did the prize giving.
Best in Show was won by Martin Egginton, with his Triumph T140 which he not only owns but built it himself, Proof if needed that “There is beauty to be found in sheer perfection”.
Our Female Rider and Bike award was won by Di. Charlton with her Purple Harley Davidson Trike.
Best Custom went to Nathan Hughes and his Suzuki Intruder.
Best Classic went to Kev Wright and his Suzuki GT750.
Rat bike was won by Steve Hughes and a very deceptive Honda Dream.
Chopper Bike to Mike Pierce and his Harley.
3 wheels was won by Jason Tomkins and the Honda Pan trike, impeccably designed and presented.
Vintage went to Chris Bennet with a 1942 Harley Davidson 1200 which until 1992 was still in service with the SA Government.
Best British bike went to Jim and a Triumph 750 Trident, used regularly but also very smart and original.
Best Engineering was won by Rover V8 Trike, Supremely designed and finished.
Streetfighter was won by a Suzuki GSXR 1100 owned by Mark Capewell.
Paintwork was won by a Harley Davidson.
Many thanks to all the people and firms that sponsored the trophies,
your contributions are greatly appreciated, especially all of you that sponsored Mark Capewell from Burton on Trent, he is doing a tandem parachute jump in the next few weeks for the Air Ambulance as he had a very bad accident a couple of years ago, he managed to raise over £400 at the bike show, and also all who put their spare cash in the bucket for the Air Ambulance as well.
After the trophies had all been awarded some of the others drifted back home so those that remained back at the pub and those who were camping we retired back into the beer garden and pub and partied the night away.
Many thanks once more to Jim, Jane and their staff for keeping everyone happy and supplied with liquid refreshments, and also thanks to you all, not just those of you who put their machines in the show but also but also to those of you who came to look, hope you all had a good day as well, it was really nice to see some faces we hadn’t seen for a while but also some new ones as well.
Ride Safe out there.
