Southampton MAG show 22nd April 2007
I must admit the 125miles to the Southampton MAG show were putting me off a little but a little voice pushed me into it and I am glad I went. I have a habit of turning up at shows early and today was no exception. It was a good job really because the place was soon heaving.
For me there were four bikes in the ‘I would love to take that home’ category. The first of which grabbed my attention in a ‘hey look at me manner’ it was a metallic grey Honda which was reminiscent of the motorcycle from the 80’s TV show Street Hawk (for those that don’t know Street Hawk was a motorcycle capable of speeds up to 300 mph and had immense firepower to take down the wrongdoers). The there was my personal favourite a small black triumph bobber tucked away at the top of the car park, now it may come as a surprise to some of you but a sportsbike is in my list of favourites too yes even though the front wheel is far too close to the engine, I would tell you what model it was but I can’t remember (cue hate mail for dissin sports bikes) but this was a Starwars theme bike with light sabres as pillion handles and a fantastic paint job (did I mention yoda was on there). There was one bike parked out the front on the road tucked away it was a red Suzuki with the word Red Bull (no not the drink) on the tank, it had wide beach bars and a chain link number plate surround it was by no-means the poshest bike there but it was one of my favourites.
now onto trikes, and boy were there a lot of trikes ranging from bikergrans GT500 with golf club gear changer to veedubs and everything in-between. But once again the show stealers were the Reliant trikes from the manky monkey motors crew, check out the trikes at www.mankymonkeymotors.co.uk. these are some of the nicest reliant based trikes you will find anywhere, (the Flapster (the orange one) was seen in a previous issue of BSH).
The ‘oh my god’ award went to the road runner bike with a mahoosive front wheel (I neglected to check the actual size but it looked like a 360) this was followed by many conversations regarding handling, and corners, it certainly got people talking.
there were stalls and BBQ in the pub garden, which also was very full, the show was effortlessly run by Southampton MAG (or so it seemed. That usually means all hell broke loose but none of it filtered through to the visitors) well done all concerned
