The dopey twat has pt the VW logo upside down on the top title I hear you yell……the reason will soon become crystal clear dear reader.

Boring bit first.
From the front: - The forks are 15mm solid stainless bar, with stainless millings for the axle and suspension mountings. These were bent, jigged and Tig welded. The dog bone links are also stainless millings.
The front wheel, disc and calliper is from a Zephyr 1100 that had covered about 250 miles in its previous life (Barton Motors on 01225 427906. Kawasaki breakers and well recommended)
A tank and front mudguard (please no fenders or “triple trees”) from Custom Fasteners, a seat base from an 1100 Jap cruiser recovered eventually by P&P Seating and a cissy bar made the same way as the forks.
Rear mudguards were from a northern trike distributor that after a “bit of work” were used. Both brake and clutch master cylinders, and the plethora of different sized Gooderidge hoses were bought at Melin Engineering, as were the oil cooler and rear coilovers.
Rear wheels are 12” wide 15 inchers from a northern supplier (since used by Yoda on his latest project) as were the 295 wide tires, very reasonably priced and a very quick ad knowledgeable service.

Now the good bit
In good Formula V. style the swing axle type transaxle was stripped, the Diff internals were turned over and all put back together again. The motor will now run normally, as will the gearbox, but the motor will sit happily in front of the gearbox. This stops the arsend heavy look, puts a bit of weight more forward where it is needed and gives you a totally different look. It doesn’t stop the wheelies you get from a VW especially with the 1720 something conversion fitted, but it helps. But it is not all good news; a few probs rear their collective ugliness.
1 No room fro the original carb.  Its crap, swap it for a couple of Webbers.
2 No room for the original Dynamo, stand and Oil filler, Fit a 2CV alternator (because it runs in the necessary “backwards” direction) and make an oil filler.
3 No exhaust will now fit because they all want to poke out forwards….. Make some nice 4 into 4 straight throughs. Put a Beetle tailpipe “baffle” in each one and they sound the dogs.
4 The gear linkage is a bastard to make work properly.

The motor was given a 1720 something conversion from Big Boys Toys (at only £250, for barrels, pistons, unleaded heads et al) and the earlier mentioned Webber carbs. The tinware was junked and an oil cooler added.

The tubes and driveshafts were shortened by no less than 7 inches each side, and some tie arms made up, new brakes complete and some Porsche Drums drilled to take the Yank style Wheelstuds.

The paint is metal black

The frame, lots of the ideas and brackets were made with or by Howling Banshee, and a tribute to proper initial design is shewn by the ability to ride this trike hands off at well over legal speeds. No steering damper wanted or needed here. THINK OF THIS WHEN BUYING A TRIKE THAT DOESN’T HANDLE. It’s your neck!

The trike won a show on its first outing, as Best Trike.

The VW upside down bit? Makes sense now eh?
