Well

Well this is the first post and I'm not really sure what I want to do with it at the mo.

As most of you will know the ward I work on is closing down and all trained staff are going to be redeployed (or in management words "no trained staff are going to lose their jobs") That's great but the untrained are just as important and all that work on the ward are excellent at their jobs. Why should they suffer because the health board are overspent. So far this year the HB have employed 3 yes 3 extra consultants.

We have a population of 22,000 up here. The hospital has a total of 80 beds(approx) over two sites. One Medical ward 20beds with 3 consultants; A surgical ward with 26 Beds and 3 Conultants as well.

Once our ward closes at the end of this financial year the HB are planning on employing two new posts. One a hospital manager and the other a director of nursing. There is a third post of a manager to oversee the merging of services to one site.

It's nice to see the money being spent wisely (NOT) and patient services being looked after (NOT). I see all this ending in tears when the system totally breaks down.

On the front of what is happening to my job. There is a post that interests me coming available so will lodge interest in it tomorrrow. I'll post later what it is once I have spoken to the other dept.
Till then
Take care

It really is shameful when patient care has to suffer due to ward closure. Sometimes throwing expensive resources at something is not the answer. The money would probably have been better spent on the simple things like making sure the patient is comfortable and has clean linen. It's amazing how much a clean bed sheet will cheer you up during a stint in Hospital, or simply just one of the staff taking a moment to make sure you have all you need and have a quick chat. It's little things like that that go a long way to helping you recover quickly and get back home to your family.
